You are making rotis. The kitchen is 45 degrees. Outside is 40. Inside it is 45 plus. The person who cooks spends the most time in that room, with zero cooling.
On the channel, Nikhil walked through why an air conditioner is one of the worst ideas for an Indian kitchen, why a regular desert cooler or a tower cooler is the wrong size, and the kitchen cooler sitting on the counter — Symphony Duet-i. This is the write-up.
The Indian kitchen problem
Our cooking dumps heat. Tempering, deep frying, pressure cooking, rotis on the tava for a long time. A single gas burner is roughly 2 to 3 kilowatts of thermal energy. Two burners, or three or four: five, six, even eight kilowatts of pure heat into the kitchen.
A ceiling fan is usually not installed in the kitchen because it disturbs the flame. An exhaust fan pulls smell. It does not cool you.
And an AC? One of the worst ideas for a kitchen. Here is the science.
Why AC is the wrong machine
An AC takes room air, cools it with refrigerant, strips the moisture, and blows back dry cold air. For that to work, the room has to be sealed. Open the door and efficiency drops by 50%.
A kitchen cannot be sealed. The gas burner is on. You need ventilation. Without it, carbon monoxide builds up, and that can be fatal. So the door or window stays open. The AC’s efficiency is gone. The compressor runs at its highest wattage. The bill goes up.
A kitchen is not a room you air-condition.
Why a cooler wants the same kitchen
A cooler works the opposite way. Evaporative cooling.
Step out after a shower. A breeze hits you. It feels cool even if the air is hot. Same principle. The cooler has water and cooling pads. The fan pulls air through the wet pads. Water evaporates and takes heat with it. Result: air that is 10 to 15 degrees below the room around it.
And here is the part that matches a kitchen: a cooler needs an open space. Fresh air in. Windows, doors, ventilation. That is what a kitchen already has.
Humidity decides if this works
Coolers do not work in every Indian city. Evaporation needs dry air.
Humidity What happens Below 40% Best option. 10–15°C drop, almost guaranteed. Above 50% The cooler struggles. It will not cool the space.
Dry summer belt on camera: Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, interiors of Karnataka, Maharashtra — humidity 20 to 35%. Cooler weather.
Coastal: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata — humidity 70 to 80%. AC is the better choice there. Do not put a cooler in the wrong city.
Why a cooler can feel better than AC (in the dry belt)
In dry areas, a cooler often feels more comfortable than an AC. Say that carefully, because it is not true on the coast.
AC gives you dry air. Eight hours of it: dry skin, dry throat, dry eyes. The medical name on camera is sick building syndrome — health issues from recirculated dry air in a sealed room.
A cooler adds moisture. Natural humidity. No dry skin, no dry throat.
AC cooling feels like standing in front of a refrigerator. A cooler’s breeze feels like a mountain wind. That feeling does not exist with an AC.
So: open kitchen + dry climate = cooler beats AC. Still not a desert cooler, and not a tower cooler. A desert cooler is way too big for a kitchen. A tower cooler does not have enough power to cool one down.
THIS instead: Symphony Duet-i
Nikhil asked Mahendra Appliances, Jayanagar, what actually works in a kitchen. The product on the counter — and the one the thumbnail labels “Use this” — is the Symphony Duet-i.
On camera: India’s first kitchen cooling fan. Not just a fan. A water-cooling system is built in. Mini evaporative chamber on the back. Designed for kitchens. Search “kitchen cooling fan” on their site and this is the unit that comes up.
Do not confuse it with a Symphony Surround tower fan, a Diet 12T, or an Ice Cube 40XL. Those are different machines. The unit on this counter is the personal kitchen Duet-i.

What it actually does (from the video)
Cools the person, not the flame. Point it at you, not the stove. 90-degree oscillation so you can set it away from the burner and let it follow you around the kitchen.
75 watts. An AC on camera is 1 to 1.5 kilowatts. Running cost stated: ₹1–2 per hour for this, ₹15–20 per hour for the AC — more if the door is open, because the AC’s efficiency is already dead.
Low noise. The kitchen already has a pressure cooker and a mixer grinder. You do not want a third loud machine.
Touch controls — on, speed, swing — that work with slightly wet hands. Mood lighting on top. Handle on top: portable. Shift it to the living room or bedroom and plug it into a normal socket.
Water-level window at the bottom. Open the tray, pour with a bottle. No guessing.
The limitations (also on camera)
Humidity above 50%, even in summer — coastal cities. Do not buy this for cooling. It will behave like a powerful fan.
It is not a room cooler. Personal kitchen cooler. Keep it close to the person cooking. The blower and the size of the machine are made for that, not for the whole room.
Oil and masala in the air. That will load the filter. Symphony sells spares. Replace every year, or every couple of years if you use it regularly.
If you live in a dry belt and you are currently running an AC on a kitchen with the window open, this is the option the video is arguing for. If you live in Mumbai, Chennai, or Kolkata humidity, it is not.
