He did not read a full spec sheet on camera. Do not invent PNG conversion fees from the listing as if he said them.

The glass

8 mm toughened glass. Most of what you see in the market, he said, is 6 mm. Touch it. The sound tells you it is solid.

33% thicker than competitors, on camera. Thicker glass, better thermal resistance, fewer cracks. That is his comparison, not a table of other brands.

Burners

Configuration he named:

• One jumbo — kadai, fry pan, pressure cooker.

• Two large — regular cooking.

• One small — chai, doodh.

Forged brass. Clogging still happens. Clean it, long life. Forging, he said, is why rusting is not the problem. Indian cooking simmers for a long time. This burner, he said, will manage that.

What the 9-year warranty actually covers (his list)

He named the covered parts:

• Burners

• Valves

• Knobs

• Lower body

Typical brands, he said, do not warrant every item, or they exclude some. This one does not play that game. That is his claim from the carton and the sticker — not a lawyer reading the PDF.

If they give nine years, he is sure they are assuming 15–20 years. That line is his inference. He did not test 15 years.

Valves, nozzle, body

SABAF. He spelled it out: an Italian valve company. These valves usually sit in very expensive hobs. The stove is a bit on the premium side from an Indian price view. From a global view, he said they put those valves in at a relatively low cost.

What you want while cooking: flame consistency, precise flame control, minimum gas leak. That is what he said these valves are for.

Cheap stoves cut cost in four places, on camera:

• Brass

• Glass thickness

• Knob quality

• Valves

360° rotating nozzle at the back. Pipe from left or right — connect. Installation flex for the kitchen.

Depth around 12 cm. Slim cooktop. If the counter is black granite, or any other black material, he said it almost disappears into the top.

ISI certified. Pan support rigid. Design felt dense.

Drip tray: stainless steel, titanium finish. Spills taper onto the tray instead of going all the way down. Cleaning gets easier. That is his read of the design, not a lab spill test.

The ₹14,000 question

He asked it himself: does ₹14,000 look expensive for a gas stove?

Many brands, he said, sit in ₹4,000 to ₹6,000. Cheap stoves compromise — warranty, gas, control, or knob quality. Those are the cost-cut areas. No other rupee figure in the video. The Amazon.in snapshot above is today’s listing, not his quote. On camera the cost is ₹14,000 plus.

Main advantage he kept repeating: 9-year warranty as a durability commitment. Premium valves, less gas wastage — that is the direct advantage he named.

Pros and cons (his list)

Pros, on camera:

• Sujata brand name — durability and usage taken seriously

• Nine-year comprehensive warranty

• 8 mm toughened glass

• Italian valves of the kind used in premium hobs

Cons, on camera:

• Some Amazon users said: get installation done by their technician. Weight, or things you miss. Keep that in mind

Tight budget: consider cheaper options. That is his line. He did not name a cheaper Sujata SKU on camera.

If you can stretch and you want a stove that lasts, nine-year warranty, he called it a no-brainer. He is considering one for his own house as an upgrade.

What to actually take from the video

If you want the machine in the video. Sujata Premium, 4 burners, glass top, 8 mm, manual ignition, black. Carton and speech both say Premium. Jumbo + two large + one small.

If you want auto ignition. That is a different listing — Classic 4-burner auto. Not this unboxing. He did not prefer auto from his own use.

Calling this a 15–20 year certified test. He did not. He read the warranty, tapped the glass, and pointed at SABAF.

₹4,000–₹6,000 glass that cracks in year three. You already know how that story ends.

On the channel, Nikhil walked through the Atomberg pedestal fan with electrician Nagabhushan — the same person from the wall-fan video. Unbox, stand, remote. No drill. This is the write-up.

Who this is actually for

Nikhil asked who prefers a pedestal fan. Nagabhushan’s answer, then Nikhil’s restatement:

Office where a ceiling fan and a wall-mount both fail. Roof is too tall, or there is simply no place to hang either machine. Computers, a table, guests. Put the stand in a corner. Swing, and the people at the table get the air, and so do the people walking in.

Home, sofa side. Behind the sofa there is often a leftover corner. Park it there. Everyone on the sofa, and guests, get the throw.

Nikhil’s close: offices, homes, no space for a wall-mount, no space for a ceiling fan. A nice corner. Anyone sitting in that room gets a lot of air.

He also said this is the product he personally uses in a balcony and a small home office. He has been using it for the last couple of years. Two years back he installed it himself.

The description line matches that: home-office corners, living rooms with low ceilings, offices where ceiling and wall fans will not fit. No drill. No holes. No electrician.

THIS instead: Atomberg Renesa pedestal (the black unit they assembled)

The carton on camera prints atomberg, PEDESTAL FAN, and RENESA. The picture on the box is a white fan. The machine they actually bolted together and plugged in is matte black — grill, blades, motor, rod, base.

They did not say the word Renesa or 400 mm out loud. The video description Amazon link is that exact listing, in the colour they built: atomberg Renesa 400mm Pedestal Fan (Midnight Black). Snow White is a colour option on the same family — not the ASIN in the description, and not the stand on the floor at the end.

Do not spec this as a ceiling fan. Do not spec it as the Atomberg wall fan or table fan that Amazon also sells under Renesa 400mm. Those are different machines. The wall unit needs two holes. This one needs a corner and a socket.

What is in the box (from the unboxing)

Nagabhushan: just open it. Front grill first, in the plastic bag. Motor. Base. Height rod / pillar. Blades. Remote.

The motor, he held it up: this is the motor, guys. Compact, same family as the wall unit.

Base. Nikhil asked if it was metal. Nagabhushan: no — it comes like PE / plastic. It has weight. There is a design pattern on it. That weight is why the stand does not need a hole in the floor.

Height rod. For the height you want. This is the extra versus the wall fan: a rod instead of a clamp.

The clip they flagged. A piece they clip on as a spacer, so the blades do not get damaged. Nagabhushan: it should not get damaged. Nikhil: they have used it just as a spacer to make sure the blade fan does not get damaged. The video description calls that the one real installation mistake, so you do not repeat it. Do not skip the spacer and grind the blades.

Same underlying technology as the wall-mount fan, he said. One thing he must say: the fit and finish is quite nice. Nagabhushan had told him the same thing off camera. No scratches, no dots, no miss paint. Almost feels like an automotive component.

Base, blade, guard (from the video)

Rod into the base. There is a piece to remove. A groove. Drop the rod into that groove, align, reverse it. A screw. Put the screw, tighten. That is the stand.

Guard onto the motor: four dots, four grooves. Same idea as the wall fan.

Plastic parts — Nikhil asked if they would be a problem. Nagabhushan’s line: unbreakable plastic.

Plastic blades. Groove, lock to the groove, tighten. That is it. Logo on the hub. Another groove on the front, match it, tighten, it locks.

Nagabhushan: one small screwdriver is enough. A tester. If you have a school screwdriver, that is enough. No drill. No holes. No special equipment.

Height and the button on the body

Rod screw: loosen, match the groove, tighten. Fan is ready.

Nikhil: one of the most simplest fans to assemble. No machine, no hole. Pretty reasonable height. You can also adjust the angle based on what you need.

They have a remote. You also have a button on the stand. Manual is there on the body as well. He called the finished unit quite nice looking, quite sleek. Very simple fan to install.

They plugged the cord into a normal wall socket on camera. No new wiring.

The limitation (also on camera)

This is not a 360° ceiling fan. It is a stand in a corner, with swing. Buy it when the ceiling and the wall are both the problem. If you can hang a ceiling fan properly, that is still the room machine. If you have a wall and two screws, that is the wall-fan video.

What to actually do (from the video)

No ceiling, no wall space. This is the job. Corner. No holes.

Office. Corner by the table. Swing covers the people at the computers and the guests.

Home. Corner behind the sofa. Same idea.

Spacer. Use the clip so the blades do not get damaged. That is the mistake they included.

Tool. One small screwdriver. Not a drill.

Socket. Plug it into a normal point. Remote, or the button on the stand.

Not a ceiling fan. Not the wall fan. Same brand, different machine.

Why they switched

They wanted a studio that does not hum. A BLDC motor, as they put it, should give you air noise, not motor noise. Lower running cost, a sleeker look, and a remote instead of the old wall regulator.

That last bit matters on site. The old wall regulator has to be bypassed. This fan is remote-only. Leave the old regulator in the circuit and you will fight the machine.

The carton on camera: Save up to ₹1,500 per year. That is a box claim, not a bill they opened. Warranty on the box: 2+1 years. Register and you get three years total, as he said on camera.

What was actually on the ceiling

Atomberg Studio Nexus Smart, 1200 mm, Dark Walnut. Black centre cap with atomberg printed on it, white LED ring around it. They did not put a website listing on screen. They showed the box and the fan.

The Amazon.in listing that matches that colour and size (not the four other Atomberg 1200 mm links in the YouTube description):

Midnight Black is a different colour on the same family (Amazon ASIN B0DZP7G3B1). That is not the wood-grain unit on this ceiling.

The YouTube description lists Renesa Enzel, Efficio Alpha, Renesa Smart, and Ameza under a “Buy Atomberg Studio Nexus” heading. Those are other Atomberg 1200 mm fans. They are not the Studio Nexus on camera. Do not order one of those four thinking it is this install.

What is in the box (from the unboxing)

Motor. Three metal blades. Downrod. Rod sleeve. Upper and lower canopies. Mounting clamp kit. Remote with battery. Warranty card.

They assembled it on the table first: downrod and clamp onto the motor, wires through the rod, blades on, canopies slid onto the rod. Then the old fan came down. The new one hangs on the same ceiling hook. Mains wires. Bypass the old regulator. Slide the top canopy flush with the ceiling.

Noise test

Highest setting. Boost. His line on camera: he can literally only hear the air. He cannot hear the motor. He cannot hear any creaking.

That is the whole test. Not a lab dB meter. A studio, boost, ears.

Remote (what they actually pressed)

Power. Boost (highest speed). The centre LED ring as a night lamp, on and off. Sleep and timer (1H, 2H) were explained. They did not walk those timer buttons on camera. Do not invent app or Alexa from this video. They used the remote in the room.

Closing

Beautifully done, he said. Ready for summer. If you still have a wall regulator on a BLDC remote fan, bypass it. If you want the wood-grain Studio Nexus that is on this ceiling, that is the Dark Walnut 1200 mm unit, not the cheaper 1200 mm names in the description list.

What is in the box (from the unboxing)

Motor. Blades. Front and back cover. Warranty cards. Remote. A really small clamp — Nikhil’s line: looks like stainless steel. Installation screws, and the plugs that go into the drill holes.

The motor, like most Atomberg products he has seen, is quite tiny, so lightweight. He has seen wall-mount fans that are quite heavy. That is why they could give such a simple clamp. He asked if it will hold the weight. Nagabhushan: very easily.

Power: a normal 2-pin socket. No new wiring. If you already have a two-pin point, you install this. Nikhil later: a lot of homes this wire will not dangle like the demo, because they will just have a simple plug right next to the clamp point.

On the unit they also showed speed and swing (manual / regulator on the body). Same idea on the remote.

Blade and guard (from the video)

Reverse thread on the blade nut — ulta — so it comes off easily. Front and back of the guard. Four holes to align, then tighten fully.

Groove and pin on the blade. Push so it sits. No extra screw. Loosen the beading / bolt-nut, set the cover on the two grooves so it holds, lock it, tighten the same nut. Fan is fixed. That’s it.

He asked if the cover will hold nicely. Yes.

Mounting: two holes, 7–8 feet

Clamp has an arrow mark. Mark first. Drill at the mark. Two PVC guttas. The fan hangs on the clamp. Nagabhushan’s line: not much work, no tension, just make holes.

Height. From floor level he put it at 8 feet. Nikhil asked what height to keep this in. Answer on camera: about 7 to 8 feet above the floor. That gives good throw to the room.

Comparison he spoke: a normal ceiling fan under a 10-foot roof drops about 1 foot to get good throw. This wall unit sits around 7.

Even if you do not have an electrician near the house: if someone can just drill two holes, you’re set. Installation was very simple.

The limitation (also on camera)

One important difference: a ceiling fan covers 360° of the room. A wall-mount fan only covers the area it is moving / pointing at. Nikhil: you can say about half of the room. That is one disadvantage. Nagabhushan agreed.

Do not buy this thinking it replaces a ceiling fan in a room that can take one. Buy it when the ceiling is the problem.

Remote

Same kind of remote as other Atomberg fans. On camera, live: swing, speed. Perfect.

He called the finished unit quite sleek, quite thin.

What to actually do (from the video)

False ceiling / double height / rent. This is the job. Two screws, 2-pin plug.

Height. 7–8 feet from the floor. Not ceiling height. Not sofa height.

Coverage. Point it at the sofa side. Half the room, not 360°. Two fans if you need both sides.

Socket. Put the 2-pin point next to the clamp so the cord does not dangle across the wall.

Not a ceiling fan. If you can hang a ceiling fan properly, that is still the 360° machine.

On the channel, Nikhil walked through why an air conditioner is one of the worst ideas for an Indian kitchen, why a regular desert cooler or a tower cooler is the wrong size, and the kitchen cooler sitting on the counter — Symphony Duet-i. This is the write-up.

The Indian kitchen problem

Our cooking dumps heat. Tempering, deep frying, pressure cooking, rotis on the tava for a long time. A single gas burner is roughly 2 to 3 kilowatts of thermal energy. Two burners, or three or four: five, six, even eight kilowatts of pure heat into the kitchen.

A ceiling fan is usually not installed in the kitchen because it disturbs the flame. An exhaust fan pulls smell. It does not cool you.

And an AC? One of the worst ideas for a kitchen. Here is the science.

Why AC is the wrong machine

An AC takes room air, cools it with refrigerant, strips the moisture, and blows back dry cold air. For that to work, the room has to be sealed. Open the door and efficiency drops by 50%.

A kitchen cannot be sealed. The gas burner is on. You need ventilation. Without it, carbon monoxide builds up, and that can be fatal. So the door or window stays open. The AC’s efficiency is gone. The compressor runs at its highest wattage. The bill goes up.

A kitchen is not a room you air-condition.

Why a cooler wants the same kitchen

A cooler works the opposite way. Evaporative cooling.

Step out after a shower. A breeze hits you. It feels cool even if the air is hot. Same principle. The cooler has water and cooling pads. The fan pulls air through the wet pads. Water evaporates and takes heat with it. Result: air that is 10 to 15 degrees below the room around it.

And here is the part that matches a kitchen: a cooler needs an open space. Fresh air in. Windows, doors, ventilation. That is what a kitchen already has.

Humidity decides if this works

Coolers do not work in every Indian city. Evaporation needs dry air.

Humidity What happens Below 40% Best option. 10–15°C drop, almost guaranteed. Above 50% The cooler struggles. It will not cool the space.

Dry summer belt on camera: Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, interiors of Karnataka, Maharashtra — humidity 20 to 35%. Cooler weather.

Coastal: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata — humidity 70 to 80%. AC is the better choice there. Do not put a cooler in the wrong city.

Why a cooler can feel better than AC (in the dry belt)

In dry areas, a cooler often feels more comfortable than an AC. Say that carefully, because it is not true on the coast.

AC gives you dry air. Eight hours of it: dry skin, dry throat, dry eyes. The medical name on camera is sick building syndrome — health issues from recirculated dry air in a sealed room.

A cooler adds moisture. Natural humidity. No dry skin, no dry throat.

AC cooling feels like standing in front of a refrigerator. A cooler’s breeze feels like a mountain wind. That feeling does not exist with an AC.

So: open kitchen + dry climate = cooler beats AC. Still not a desert cooler, and not a tower cooler. A desert cooler is way too big for a kitchen. A tower cooler does not have enough power to cool one down.

THIS instead: Symphony Duet-i

Nikhil asked Mahendra Appliances, Jayanagar, what actually works in a kitchen. The product on the counter — and the one the thumbnail labels “Use this” — is the Symphony Duet-i.

On camera: India’s first kitchen cooling fan. Not just a fan. A water-cooling system is built in. Mini evaporative chamber on the back. Designed for kitchens. Search “kitchen cooling fan” on their site and this is the unit that comes up.

Do not confuse it with a Symphony Surround tower fan, a Diet 12T, or an Ice Cube 40XL. Those are different machines. The unit on this counter is the personal kitchen Duet-i.

What it actually does (from the video)

Cools the person, not the flame. Point it at you, not the stove. 90-degree oscillation so you can set it away from the burner and let it follow you around the kitchen.

75 watts. An AC on camera is 1 to 1.5 kilowatts. Running cost stated: ₹1–2 per hour for this, ₹15–20 per hour for the AC — more if the door is open, because the AC’s efficiency is already dead.

Low noise. The kitchen already has a pressure cooker and a mixer grinder. You do not want a third loud machine.

Touch controls — on, speed, swing — that work with slightly wet hands. Mood lighting on top. Handle on top: portable. Shift it to the living room or bedroom and plug it into a normal socket.

Water-level window at the bottom. Open the tray, pour with a bottle. No guessing.

The limitations (also on camera)

Humidity above 50%, even in summer — coastal cities. Do not buy this for cooling. It will behave like a powerful fan.

It is not a room cooler. Personal kitchen cooler. Keep it close to the person cooking. The blower and the size of the machine are made for that, not for the whole room.

Oil and masala in the air. That will load the filter. Symphony sells spares. Replace every year, or every couple of years if you use it regularly.

If you live in a dry belt and you are currently running an AC on a kitchen with the window open, this is the option the video is arguing for. If you live in Mumbai, Chennai, or Kolkata humidity, it is not.

What was actually on the table

The carton in front of him is labelled SUJATA SUPERMIX MIXER-GRINDER. Yellow badge on the box: MORE POWERFUL 900 WATTS. ISI mark. Mittal Electronics “A QUALITY PRODUCT” badge. The motor base on camera is white. The Amazon.in listing we have for the same named model is black. Same name, not the same colour.

He pointed at four features printed on the box. He named two of them clearly. Do not invent the other two.

Double ball bearings. On-screen overlay: DOUBLE BALL BEARING. He is not technical enough to explain the bearing, he said. What he will stand on: they claim that because of the double ball bearing, run time is 90 minutes. Printed on the box. He has not seen other home mixers allow more than 15, 20, or at most 30 minutes. That 15–30 line is his comparison, not a table of other brands.

Designed in India, made in India. Completely, and from a time when India was not known for this category.

What is in the box (from the unboxing)

1.7 L blender jar. First thing out. Printed on the jar: do not put hot ingredients or a spoon inside. Lid has an opening that locks. His Atomberg note: that lid did not have a lockable opening. This one does.

The spare 1750 ml blender jar on Amazon.in is the same job — compatible with 900W Sujata mixers, per the listing. Handle and lid on that listing are black. The blender on camera sits on the white base, white handle and lid.

Blades are not that sharp. He said that is the point. A sharp blade is hiding a weak motor. A blunt blade is what actually blends when the motor has torque.

Grinder jar. Same story: blades barely sharp enough.

Chutney jar. Locks when you seat it on the base.

900W motor base. Dense and heavy in the hand. The sight is not new if you have been in a juice shop. He still wanted the weight on camera.

Driving coupler teeth: metal. On-screen overlay: DRIVING COUPLER TEETH. A lot of mixers you already own use plastic teeth here. This one is proper metal.

Controls. Centre: a whisk setting, power on, and speed control. That is the whole panel. He does not need an instruction manual to run it.

The knob goes 360°. Low, medium, high — and then you can cut power immediately. A lot of mixers make you come back down medium, low, then zero. This one shuts off from high without the reverse trip. He called that a design decision, not a gimmick.

Hold the lid while it runs. That is on the box and on the lid. The auto-caption cuts the spoken line; on camera he still locks it and holds it.

The tests (no chopping, no prep)

He rinsed the blender first. Then he tried to break it.

Ice. Straight into the blender. Crushed. He said it is a blending unit, not an ice crusher — and it still ate the ice. Iconic sound, his words.

Pineapple. Large chunks. Not chopped “tinily”. Thrown straight in, on the crushed ice, then water. He shook the jar so the pieces dropped onto the blades. Juice like the shop. He did not run it through a sieve. He drank it.

Tomatoes. Whole. Not chopped. Pureed in seconds. He was laughing because he does not usually treat a blender this roughly. No fear the machine would die. Tomato puree, done.

Coconut chutney, in the chutney jar. Coriander, mint, mirchi, and chunks of dried coconut. A little water. Locked, seated, blitzed. The coconut size did not matter. Less than a minute. He reminded you the box still claims 90 minutes of run.

Badam powder, in the grinding jar. Straight out of the pack. No soaking, no prep. About 20 seconds. He did not even run it a full minute. Shop-style powder.

Cold coffee. Instant, vanilla-flavoured. Locked. Frothy. Poured like café coffee. He took a sip. Completely blended.

Ice, pineapple, tomato, coconut, almond, coffee. No chopping. That is the demo, not a 90-minute endurance lab.

Why juice shops do not care about your 20-minute mixer

Indian cooking is not a 30-second smoothie. On camera:

• Idli batter — you keep mixing until it is smooth. He put that at 20, 30, 50 minutes.

• Powdered chutneys in his house — 30 to 45 minutes.

• Nothing he makes at home needs 90 minutes. The rated run on this box is still 90.

Fine print on other mixers is where brands hide the short duty cycle. He read 90 minutes on the Sujata carton and thought it could not be real — until he remembered the juice shop next door runs the same shape of machine all day. The juices there always tasted right. After this demo, he said he got that same taste.

Slightly more expensive than a lot of mixer-grinders. No rupee figure in the video. The Amazon.in snapshot above is today’s listing, not his quote.

The people who designed this in the 1980s, he said, had their priorities straight. There is a movement called buy it for life. For buy-it-for-life India, he would start the journey with this piece of equipment.

He had seen these in shops. He had never used one at home until this video. The designers knew what they were doing.

What to actually take from the video

If you want the machine in the video. Sujata Supermix, 900W, three jars, 1.7 L blender. Carton says SUPERMIX. Body on camera is white. Amazon.in listing we have is black.

If you want the 1000W four-jar. That is the MG03, red and black. Different wattage, different jar count, different colour. Not this unboxing.

If you already own a 900W Sujata and the blender jar is the piece that dies. The 1750 ml blender jar listing is the spare for that job. Confirm coupler fit on your exact base before you order.

Plastic coupler teeth on a cheap mixie. That is the part he asked you to go check. This one is metal.

A 15–30 minute mixer, then idli batter. You already know how that story ends.

Calling this a certified 90-minute lab test. He did not. He read the box, ran food through it, and pointed at the juice shop.

Nikhil bought it and used it every single day for over a year. Daily chutneys, masalas, batter, milkshakes, chopping. More than 300 sessions. He will tell you where it matched a 1000W machine, and where it gave him trouble.

This is a mixer grinder, not a kitchen chimney. Amazon searches for “Zenova” throw up Elica and Faber hoods. Those are different products. Do not spec this as a chimney.

On the channel, Nikhil walked through one year of daily Indian cooking with this mixer — not a showroom demo. This is the write-up.

What BLDC actually changes

BLDC already changed the fan industry in the last ten years. In a mixer it is not just about saving electricity. On camera Nikhil listed what you get that a regular motor does not: variable speed control, a compact design, better safety, a ventless body, and longer motor life.

A regular mixer uses a brush motor. Carbon brushes rub against the motor. Friction, then heat, then wasted energy.

BLDC is brushless DC. No brushes. No friction. His line: when 550W go into a BLDC motor, most of that energy goes into grinding, not heat. On a regular 1000W brush motor he put it as roughly 400W wasted as heat, 600W actually grinding. So a 550W BLDC’s effective output is comparable to a 1000W brush motor. Comparable, yes. In daily use, he said you will not feel the difference. Those watt-split numbers are his, from the video — not a lab sheet we are inventing.

One year, 300+ sessions

He took the 550W claim to the kitchen.

Turmeric, in the 1.5L liquidizing jar. Powder, smooth, in seconds. No strain, no vibration, consistent grind. His verdict on that tough job: it stood up like a 1000W mixer.

Then the everyday work.

Coarse mode. Not a regular smooth grind. Silbatta-like texture — crushed, not turned into paste. Coconut chutney, peanut chutney, coriander-mint chutney, dry masalas. Grainy, like a stone grinder, inside a mixer. After a year it is their go-to for chutneys and podis. He called it one of the most useful features on the machine.

Idli-dosa batter in the 1.5L liquidizing jar: ready in a few minutes. Milkshakes: 45 seconds. The daily jobs he said 90% of people actually do — zero complaints.

The unit on that counter is the Atomberg Zenova 550W BLDC mixer. Amazon’s closest listing is titled Special Edition — those two words are not said on camera. Colour on camera is red wine. The listing title does not name a colour.

The chopper that ate the prep time

He did not expect to use the 500ml / 0.5L chopper jar this much. It became a daily time saver.

The speed range is the reason. Zenova runs 2,000 to 18,000 rpm. Most other mixers, on camera, start around 10,000 and go to 18,000. That low start is why the chopper chops instead of turning food into paste.

• Onions: a clean chop

• Tomatoes: rough pieces, not mushed

• Ginger-garlic: a tadka base, not a smear

His own prep time: from 40 minutes to about 10 minutes. For bhurji or pulao, the onion pieces released just enough water. No mush.

The new model also comes with two blades for chopping, and the blades detach, so cleaning is simple. He did not say the one-year unit started that way — treat two-blade as the newer chopper, not a spec we are back-dating onto the old jar.

Design and safety

It does not look like a typical mixer. Red wine finish, compact enough to sit under kitchen cabinets. He called it a modern gadget you leave on the counter, not something you hide.

LED ring: glows blue while you select speed, red if there is a fault. You can see what the machine is doing.

Safety, as stated on camera:

• Motor will not start unless the jar is properly locked

• Anti-gravity lid locks keep the lid on

• Overload protection: excessive load, it stops, plays a beep, LED goes red

• No auto-restart after a power cut. His previous mixer came back on with batter still in the jar and threw it everywhere. On the Zenova, power returns, motor stays off. You restart it yourself.

Ventless body. No openings, no gaps. Regular mixers trap dust, oil, masala in the vents — and pests can get in. After a year of daily use he said it still almost looks new.

Service: Atomberg is a BLDC fan company with a strong network. Warranty on camera: 2 years, plus 1 extra year if you register on their website — 3 years total. Most other mixers, he said, stop at 2.

Where it struggled

Sticky ingredients. Dry-fruit ladoos: dates, almonds, cashews. Dates jammed in the blades. Motor running, ingredients not moving. He had to reach in, pull them out, put them back. Frustrating. His note: this happens in every mixer. A juicer jar or the smaller chutney jar handles sticky loads better.

Jar sizes, bigger families. Four jars, as named:

Family of two to four: perfect. Bigger family, or guests: the 1.5L liquidizing jar can feel small. Batter does not finish in one batch. He did not quote a 2L or 2.5L option. Do not invent one.

Should you buy it

Direct, from the year of use:

Buy it if daily work is chutney, masalas, milkshakes, batter, chopping. The liquidizer handles smoothies fine.

If juicing is part of the routine, they have launched Atomberg Zenova Fresh — a juicing and blending jar he described as no-seed-crushed juicing. That is a different SKU, not the machine he cooked with for a year. Existing Zenova owners can buy the jar as an add-on; he said it is compatible.

What the BLDC is doing, in his close: more versatility, faster prep, less vibration, lower electricity use. Chopper saves real time. Safety is solid. Ventless body is easy to keep clean. Three-year warranty if you register.

For most Indian kitchens, family of two to four: it handles what you need.

What to actually do (from the video)

550W vs 1000W. He is not selling a wattage sticker. BLDC, less heat waste, comparable grind on daily Indian work. Turmeric in the 1.5L jar was the tough test on camera.

Chutney and podi. Use coarse mode. That is the silbatta texture.

Chopping. Use the 0.5L chopper. Low rpm is the point. Do not run onions at mixer speed and then complain they turned to paste.

Sticky ladoo mix. Dates will jam. Smaller jar or juicer jar. Not a Zenova-only failure.

Joint family / guests / big batter. 1.5L will not finish the batch. Family of 2–4 is the fit he named.

Juicing. That is Zenova Fresh, or the add-on jar, not the 1-year mixer as reviewed.

Power cuts. No auto-restart is a feature. Do not expect the motor to come back on by itself.

On the channel we sat with carpenter Bhawarlalji — more than 25 years on the tools in Bengaluru, 500+ commercial and residential projects, still working mostly under architects. This is not a designer sales pitch. It is what actually happens on site. This is the write-up.

How to tell a real carpenter from a Google ad

Ask for a reference. Then ask which architects he has worked under, and which projects. Bhawarlalji’s test is simple: one kind of man only chases money. The other wants money and also that his name stays clean.

Past work is the whole game, especially with carpenters. Someone who in one, two, or four years has only sat down with a small factory setup is hard to trust — today he is here, tomorrow where? The signal he trusts: the man has stayed in the market a long time, and stayed joined to the same customers.

Do not give a brand-new person the house. Before you put a new man inside, take a reference and a way to reach him again.

Do not run four teams yourself

A house needs about four or five teams. If you coordinate them — carpenter separately, then painter, then electrician — Bhawarlalji’s line is blunt: 99% of owners get exhausted. You call one team, the other says they do not have two days. You do not actually save money. You just get the hassle in your lap.

Better: one carpenter or contractor takes the full tender. One team. Coordinating becomes their job. Complaints do not land on you. “My painter is someone I know” is fine. Running four or five known people at once is how the job goes messy.

Factory in 15 days is use-and-throw

Order today, deliver in 15 or 15–20 days: he calls that a use-and-throw item. Machine-made pieces brought to site do not suit the house. Gaps remain. Levels do not match. That furniture is for two to four years, temporary. It looks like something placed in the room, not made for it.

To complete a room the way the architect drew it, about 40% of the work still has to happen on site.

Modular mini-fix — factory packs it, someone clips it on — has a shorter life. Readymade carcasses sit on a few side clips. Put weight in an overhead, or pull it, and the ply sags or comes out.

His own factory-finish split: 60 to 70% in the factory, about 30 to 40% on site (panelling, ceiling, design, headboard, carcass). Later he restates it as 60% factory, 40% final outer finishing on site. They avoid mini-fix. Full screw fixing. You can still change size. Once a factory piece is finished, cutting it later is the hard job.

Plywood in the box. MDF only where it earns its place.

MDF is right for carving, CNC, a smooth finish, shapes, colour-matching a design. Do that same work in plywood and the finish does not come.

For wardrobes, beds, kitchen, TV unit — anything you want to run 15–20 years — plywood, with laminate inside the storage. MDF or particle board in a wardrobe: not much life. One, two, four years maybe.

Modular companies push particle board and MDF because the thickness is consistent, cutting and fitting are easy, and heavy coatings — PU, polycoat, UV — arrive as a press sheet with a flat level. It is cheaper. It is faster. If you still use particle board, he would use it only on shutters. Inner carcass in ply.

Where the board goes:

• Bedroom, no water: MR-grade ply is fine.

• Kitchen, utility, bathroom vanity: waterproof ply. Not MR.

• Bathroom wet work: he also uses a stone-like waterproof board that can take a daily water wash (a bit expensive). Get the exact product name on the quote — the auto-captions did not give us a spelling we will stand behind.

• A softer board he described, captions rendered as “WBC”: hardware loosens after some days. Do not specify that board on a quote until the carpenter names the actual product in writing.

Teak, sheesham, rubber wood: classical — pillars, arches, old-style doors. Modern interiors use less solid wood. He misses it (bungalow handrails, ceilings, wall panelling, doors). The problem is the joint. Polish, PU, polycoat — the crack still opens. Two to four years later you see it. They now make flush doors and put veneer, so it looks like wood. It is not solid wood.

Hardware is not the line to “save”

Ignore it and you find out when the door comes off in your hand.

Brands he named: Blum, Hafele, Hettich. Hinges, drawer channels, sliding-door mechanisms. Branded. Locals do not last.

Hafele’s hinge was not listed, and this section is hinges, drawer channels, and sliding-door mechanisms — not locks — so there is no Hafele product here. Fit local once and you have holes in the carcass; the clean second-fit option is gone. You keep replacing. That is the expensive path.

The number he put on the table: a Blum hinge set ₹450. Local ₹60. The customer hears ₹60 versus ₹450 and thinks loot. It is the product.

Check the movement at install. Branded: smooth, soft-close. Local: inside four to six months — noise, the soft-close stops shutting, it fails, or it comes off in the hand. The brand is also written on the piece.

Some modular factories will give you branded hardware. Some who only care about money will not. Ask. Look at the stamp.

This is not really “imported” anymore. Manufacturing is in India; they bring material from outside or assemble here. What he has not seen is an India-made hinge at Blum’s level. The technique, he says, is good enough that the chance of a fault is not there. India has the means. The will to research it, in his view, is what is missing.

And then the line that matters more than the brand: expensive material and a big company name will not save a bad man on site. One good person running the work, and the project is fine.

Finishes: laminate, PU, polycoat, acrylic

Laminate is the starting range. A 3BHK, he says, they can finish in ₹10–15 lakh, up to ₹20 lakh, in laminate.

Then veneer, or an MDF finish, with PU and polycoat on top. Duco used to be the job; he says very little Duco now. Now PU or polycoat.

Highest: polycoat. Expensive, more time, a glass-type coating. Any hit can crack. That bit is hard to repair. Low budget: laminate. Better quality: PU. Polycoat is fine if it does not take hits.

Acrylic: good on a plain wardrobe door. It does not turn on carving. Wall panelling — charcoal panels and a colour combination with acrylic are in the mix now.

Where money actually dies: the contractor. He can sit you at a cheap finish, or take you to ₹50–60 lakh, depending on what he wants. The old percentage-based model was worse — the incentive was inflate the billing, waste your material. He calls that the worst thinking.

What to do instead: drawing on the table, one lump-sum quotation — this almirah, this wardrobe, this many doors, kitchen, hall. Approximate. Some plus, some minus during the work. Agree the range and the products before anyone cuts a sheet.

Why the job is late

At booking he may say three months or four. Then the drawing is not decided. Then material does not arrive. After decisions, material, and a clear line, the delay is labour. His example: four projects running, a fifth to start. He cannot just fetch labour from somewhere else. That is the main reason.

So when a carpenter promises a date, ask what is actually decided — drawing, material, which team — not only the month.

Livspace, Homelane, Design Cafe — the brand is not the man on site

The host named the companies that have walked into Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai with big turnovers: Livspace, Homelane, Design Cafe. Bhawarlalji would rather not keep naming them. His point is the same for any brand.

80% of people go behind the name. A big brand does not decide who actually walks into your house. His example: a company with 20 workers. When your job’s number comes up, whoever is free is who they send. True of every company and every contractor.

Even if you hire the company, screen the person on site. Two to four days of work and you know.

Interior is not a finished factory product. The carcass can come from a factory. What you live with is what got installed. That is the 60/40 again.

When a half-finished job lands on him — and he says he does at least seven or eight such unfinished/small takeovers a year — he asks the client to connect the old team, clear the accounts, free them. If they have no labour or no time, he can continue. If the owner just wants the old team chased off, he still wants the actual problem, not the story.

The wrecked sites he described were more often small local carpenters (he has taken over three or four such jobs — UP, Karnataka locals): work not as per drawing, a small amount taken, then they exit. The other trap: carpenter stops work to pull money first, customer wants work first then pay. The job dies in the middle. He has, he says, left a job himself when he took another project and had no time and no labour.

Take an architect if you want a good house

Not as a luxury. As the person who stops you designing a room as “almirah here, bed here” until the look is gone. The architect still gives you the storage, costs a bit more, and hands over a complete set — drawing plus 3D, which a carpenter explaining cost at the table cannot do the same way.

Bhawarlalji can build a room. He has done it for 25 years. What he cannot do is make the customer see the full set the way an architect can. For him and for you, a drawing in the middle also means less fear, and less chance of “19-20” — fudging — on the job, because he works with that architect every day.

If you want a good project: take an architect. People self-contracting with a junior’s 3D is not the same as an architect specifying every material and how it is fitted.

Company “architects” work under the company. They use company material. They will not go new-new. A big independent architect, in his example, has already made 200 homes and wants this one different — and material companies send samples to those offices.

If the budget is the ₹10–20 lakh band, he is direct: architect fees often cannot be afforded. Sit with the carpenter. Do a normal job. If you still want help seeing colour and items, take a 3D from an architect without expecting full visits.

On site, a good designer gives the carpenter a drawing they can sit on in a meeting. Some designed things are not possible. They change them with the architect in the room. New designer or old does not matter to him if the drawing exists.

What a 3BHK actually costs (his numbers)

Host’s hypothetical: 3BHK, 1,500 sq ft. Bhawarlalji’s ranges, as an estimate, full interior — carpentry, painting, electrical:

Architect work, typically, sits in the premium band. Laminate on a 3BHK, as above, is the ₹10–15–20 lakh finish band. He also said he can take a house to ₹50–60 lakh if that is the brief.

How he builds a rate: discuss the whole interior, quantities, market prices, then a per sq ft rate on each item. Worked example: an almirah of 100 sq ft at around ₹2,000 per sq ft. (The total he attached to that almirah dropped a digit in the auto-captions. We are not inventing it.)

War and rates: he said everything is up — laminate, plywood, any product — about 10 to 15%. Some of those hikes, in his view, have nothing to do with the war or with imports. Hardware made in India went up anyway.

Premium work at a cheap rate is a cheat. He said it three times. Who will deliver premium will take a premium rate — labour or turnkey. A ₹100 thing for ₹50: why would anyone. If someone still takes it, 100% something will go wrong.

The money traps

Do not give 50% advance to a stranger. The disappear-after-advance people, he says, are new. Google ad, sweet talk, take the money, stop picking up. A man walking in off a Google number does not get advance. If you still use him: pay against material as it arrives. Anyone who says this is a ₹5 lakh job or a ₹50 lakh job, give me 50% — if they run with half, what will you catch?

Kickbacks: ply and hardware shops paying the carpenter without telling you. He says he has not taken that, does turnkey so he buys the material himself, and gives an open shop option. At Diwali or a shop meeting they may get a bonus — a watch, small items. He also says in the market this happens. Your defence: a proper bill for whatever material comes, a bit of screening, ask the shopkeeper to tell you, and check open-market rates.

Theft of ply/hardware: some people, yes. “The sea has good fish and dirty fish.” A wifi CCTV in one or two places. Do not put a brand-new man inside without a reference.

Deliberate faults so you call him back: he says nobody wants that. The carpenter is more worried his name goes bad. Do your house well and you refer four people. Mess happens when the man does not understand that product, or has not done it — not because he planned a callback.

The bill shock: you squeeze the estimate at signing. Work starts. You change something in the middle. Nobody asks whether that change costs more or less. Final bill: “the carpenter inflated it.” Every change needs a clear talk — price up or price down — while the change is still a decision, not a surprise.

Shortage, and what he would tell a 20-year-old

The host cited a report (unnamed): 20 lakh skilled construction workers short today — carpenters, electricians — and people saying that number can go toward 2 crore. That is the host’s citation, not a figure Bhawarlalji measured.

Bhawarlalji’s why: nobody wants the next generation in this work. Hard work. After the work, they do not get their due — customers who feel, job done, why pay now. So a worker thinks he will not put his son in this line. Machinery, he says, is what can save it: 20 men’s work, two men can do.

Would he want his own children to be carpenters? Honestly, no.

A 20-year-old who is not into studies and wants to come anyway: best option, come. There are not enough people. If there are no people, you still have to run the machines.

What to actually do

Reference first. Architects he has worked with, projects you can walk. A man who has stayed.

One team. Do not be the coordinator of four or five trades unless you enjoy that job.

Specify the carcass and the hardware yourself. Plywood in storage. Waterproof ply in wet rooms. Branded hinges and channels — Blum, Hafele, Hettich — and look at the stamp on site.

Big brand ≠ the man in your house. Screen the person who actually arrives.

Do not get swept by the 15-day factory pitch, or by premium work at a local-hinge rate. You now know which questions to ask, and which answers are nonsense.

The fire did not start in the EV battery. The root cause was the charger’s wiring and installation.

India has seen similar incidents. EV adoption is rising, and every other apartment has someone putting up a charger — most of the time without a plan. The risk does not stay in your car. The building, the other vehicles, the property, and the people all get put in it.

On the channel, Nikhil walked through the mistakes people skip and a seven-point safety checklist for a safe, legal, tension-free apartment EV charging setup. This is the write-up.

Most accidents come from bad installation and carelessness. Follow the process and EV charging is both safe and compliant. Skip it and you are one incident away from lakhs.

Step 1 — Start with a written NOC

A lot of people assume that if the society secretary says no, that is the end of it. Others install a charger without telling anyone at all. Both are wrong.

Ministry of Power guidelines are clear: RWAs cannot refuse without a valid reason. If they do, you can take it to RERA, the discom, or the courts. Installing a private charger in your own dedicated parking spot is your right.

Submit a written application to the society. Put these on the page, clearly:

• charger model

• kilowatt rating

• electrician details

• safety measures

• load details

Then formally request the NOC.

On camera we showed a sample letter headed Formal Application for Private Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Installation, addressed to the RWA / management committee, with fields for date, name, flat number, and dedicated parking slot. The examples on that form (a “Wallbox Pro”, a named electrician, a 9.0 kW sanctioned-load line) are placeholders for the letter, not products we are telling you to buy.

The NOC is the paper trail. Insurance claims and legal disputes both come back to it.

Step 2 — Load assessment

Get the society’s transformer and wiring inspected. Confirm it can take the extra load of an EV charger. Multiple EVs plus home appliances can spike the load hard.

You have options:

• get the sanctioned load increased through the local electricity board

• get a dedicated sub-meter

• use the society’s common EV connection

This work has to be done by a licensed electrician or the local electricity board. Not the guy who rewired your kitchen last year and “knows MCBs”.

Two things that are not options:

A standard 15-amp socket is not safe for long-term use on a car charger. It is not a wall box.

Do not run the charger off the common society supply. It is against the rules. It is a direct invitation to a fire — those supplies may not be designed for the extra load. On camera: a “Running on Common Supply” setup is exactly the thing to refuse.

Step 3 — BIS-certified charger and wiring

If you are buying a charger, buy a BIS-certified one.

Wiring, as stated on camera:

• copper cable

• fire-rated

• run inside PVC conduits

• minimum 4 sq mm thickness — the on-screen label is THICKNESS : 4 SQ MILLIMETER

• a dedicated line from the flat to the parking spot

• no loose or hanging wires

Nikhil’s own install: he took the line from his MCB to the parking spot. You should also put in a dedicated MCB and an RCCB. Both are mandatory.

On camera the MCB shown is marked 32 A (B-curve, 10 kA, 230/400 V). The RCCB shown is a four-pole unit marked Type AC, 40 A, IΔn 30 mA, 415 V. Those are the markings on the devices in the video — not a spoken “buy exactly this rating” spec. Your electrician sizes them to the charger and the run. Get that in writing.

Proper earthing is essential. Get the electrician to test it and give you a certificate that it is safe.

Reputed brands — Tata is the one named on camera — send authorised EV installers. Tata’s 7.2 kW wall box was not listed on Amazon.in when we checked. The 7.2 kW pick that is listed is PME HyperCharge, ₹21,849 (Buy on Amazon.in) — image and full line sit under Step 6, not here. That is what happened in his house: the car came with an electrician. Before the electrician arrived, there was a site checklist to finish. If the site is not ready, they will not install. A still labelled COMPLIANT shows a Tata 7.2 kW wall box on a pillar, PVC conduits, a dedicated enclosure, and earthing — that is the look you want, not a cable taped to a column.

Step 4 — Fire safety and placement

The right charger and the right wiring are useless if the location is wrong.

• Pick a spot where air circulates

• Keep at least 1.5 m of clear space around the charger (on-screen: 1.5 METRES CLEAR SPACE)

• No combustible material near the charger

Upcoming amendments to the National Building Code are about to make ventilation requirements for basement charging mandatory. On camera a basement NBC excerpt is shown with the ventilation clause highlighted (basement height at least 2.4 m; adequate ventilation, mechanical if needed). The presenter did not read those dimensions as EV-charger rules — the point he made is ventilation for basement charging is moving from “nice” to “code”.

Modern chargers come with auto cut-off. In a bad installation, even those features may fail. Do not use auto cut-off as an excuse to skip the NOC, the load check, or the RCCB.

Step 5 — If you are a renter, get both NOCs

This is the step most people skip.

Many societies refuse EV charger installation on rental status outright. The argument: you are a temporary resident, why should we approve a permanent installation?

What to do:

1. Get an NOC from the flat owner

2. Have the owner inform the society

3. You need written permission from both the owner and the RWA

Do not go for jugaad or temporary setups. Charging in parking via an extension cord or a portable charger is a fire hazard. It can also violate society rules — and get you evicted.

Step 6 — Pick the right charger (this is where vendors waste your money)

For home charging, an AC wall box is the standard: 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW. Plenty for overnight charging.

The 3.3 kW listing we have is not a hardwired wall box, and BIS is not in the title. It is a portable Type 2 unit with a wall bracket:

A DC fast charger is overkill for a home. The apartment’s infrastructure will not support it.

Check the connector type. Most EVs in India come with a Type 2 connector. If you are buying a separate charger, test compatibility, and buy a good brand with proper certification.

Your vendor will say: let’s future-proof it, we will install a 22 kW unit, it will be fast charging. Your car’s capacity matters more. Entry-level models named on camera — Nexon EV and MG EV — will not take more than 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW. Paying for 22 kW on a car that can only swallow 7.2 kW is not future-proofing. It is a quote.

Two-wheelers

A dedicated home EV charging station is recommended for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers — convenience and safety.

A properly earthed 15-amp socket should work for a two-wheeler. What he would actually recommend: a dedicated charger with its own separate MCB box. The Amazon.in listing we have is a 60V 6A lithium e-bike charger — not an MCB-box wall unit:

The charger usually comes with the scooter. You may not have to buy one. If you are buying, pick the more reliable, more expensive option, preferably from the OEM. A lot of these brands will come and do the home installation — you still have to prepare the site (NOC, load, wiring, earthing) before they arrive.

Step 7 — Documentation, insurance, and regular checks

Keep everything in writing:

• society NOC

• charger invoice

• installation contract

• load report

• electrician certification

• RCCB and earthing tests

You need three kinds of insurance:

1. An EV add-on on your car or two-wheeler insurance — even if it costs more. On-screen and spoken: ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 a year.

2. Check that your home insurance covers basement parking.

3. The society’s master insurance only clears claims where there is a complete record of NOCs and authorised installation. No paper trail, no claim.

After installation, get an inspection done. Keep tracking the society’s EV rules — policies keep changing. EV-ready infrastructure also raises property value. No number was given for that uplift; treat it as a reason to do the install properly, not as a resale calculator.

What it actually costs (from the video)

On-screen totals, spoken as a maximum, and they vary by region:

The ₹50–70k figure was not broken into a line-item table. Do not treat it as 25–30 plus 5–10. It is the broader “do it properly once” ballpark he put on the whole job.

Do it the wrong way — random electrician, cheap wires, cheap charger, cheap MCB — and one incident costs lakhs and lakhs.

What to actually do (from the video)

Secretary said no. That is not the end. Written application. Ministry of Power. RERA / discom / courts if they refuse without a valid reason.

Rental flat. Owner NOC first, then RWA. Both in writing. No extension cord in the basement.

15-amp socket for the car, long-term. No.

Common society supply. No.

DC fast charger or a 22 kW “future-proof” box at home. No. 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW AC wall box. Match the car.

BIS, copper, 4 sq mm, PVC conduit, dedicated MCB + RCCB, tested earthing, certificate. Yes. All of it.

Insurance. Three covers, not one. The society’s master policy will not save you if the NOC file is empty.

Your kitchen is the most used room in the house. You will cook, clean, and stand in it for the next twenty years. Pick the wrong material and you are looking at stains that will not come off, cabinets that sag, and a ₹50,000+ repair bill in two to three years.

On the channel, Architect Pooja Kothari walked through every material that actually matters in an Indian kitchen in 2026 — counters, carcass, hardware, appliances, sink, backsplash — with real prices, not showroom theatre. This is the write-up.

Countertops

The counter is the work surface. Chopping, rolling dough, hot pans, water, masala, daily. It has to be tough, hygienic, and easy to wipe.

Granite. Natural stone, extremely hard. Indian granite starts around ₹150/sq ft. Imported is around ₹700/sq ft — mostly different patterns and colours, not better performance. Thicknesses you will be shown: 18mm, 20mm, 25mm. Thicker is more durable and more heat-resistant, and more expensive. For most kitchens, 20mm is the sweet spot. Hot pans can go straight on it. If it is sealed properly it resists stains; reseal every 2–3 years because granite is porous. It can chip if you drop something heavy. A good Indian slab is fine for most homes.

Quartz. Engineered — crushed quartz mixed with resins. Non-porous, no sealing, harder than granite, more consistent in colour. Not as heat-resistant: a hot pot placed directly can damage it, and chips are expensive to repair. Premium brand: Caesarstone. Budget brand: AGL.

Marble. Looks like a palace. Premium imported: ₹3,300–₹5,600/sq ft. Indian marble starts around ₹150/sq ft; with processing and installation you are looking at about ₹2,000/sq ft. It is naturally cool, which is nice for rolling dough. It is also limestone. Lemon, vinegar, tomato, tamarind — they etch it permanently. For an Indian kitchen, marble is a poor working surface.

Corian (solid surface). Acrylic-based, mouldable. ₹400–₹800/sq ft depending on brand and design. Curved edges, integrated sinks, invisible joints, scratches can be sanded out. Non-porous, so it does not harbour bacteria. Use it when you want shapes granite cannot do.

Stainless steel. The restaurant counter. ₹300–₹500/sq ft. Hygienic, heat-resistant, easy to clean. At home it looks industrial, and it shows water spots and scratches.

Tile. ₹100–₹300/sq ft. The grout lines collect dirt, stains, and bacteria. Only if the budget is extremely tight.

Cabinets (the carcass)

Whatever you store — pressure cookers, steel dabbas, glass — sits in the carcass. This is the structure. Do not cheap it.

• Particle board — ₹600–₹1,200/sq ft — Sags under weight. Disintegrates if water gets in. Tight budget + you plan to upgrade soon, and nothing else.

• MDF — ₹800–₹1,800/sq ft — Fine for painted finishes and upper cabinets. Swells when wet. Risky under the sink.

• HDHMR — ₹1,000–₹2,500/sq ft — Denser than MDF, treated for moisture. Manufacturers claim 10× the screw-holding of plywood. Brands: Century, Merino.

• Plywood (BWR / BWP) — ₹1,200–₹2,800/sq ft — Best default for Indian kitchens. Handles humidity and water use. BWR for occasional wetting; BWP can take boiling water.

Pooja’s preference on camera: imported birch ply. It does not absorb water, so it does not sag or spoil the way cheaper boards do.

If the budget is tight, put the money into the carcass and upgrade the door finish later. Replacing the whole structure later is the expensive job.

Door finishes

Laminate. A decorative layer bonded to the carcass. Look for rounded edges so it does not peel. Basic laminates peel in a few years; premium ones last decades.

Veneer. Thin real wood. Solid-wood look at a fraction of the cost. Needs polishing every few years; water can damage it.

PU paint. Liquid coating that hardens into a protective layer — glossy, matt, or textured, many colours, repairable if damaged. Costs 30–50% more. Shows fingerprints. Needs regular wiping.

Acrylic. High-gloss, almost glass-like, modern, scratch-resistant. Premium. Expensive to repair if it gets damaged.

Modular vs carpenter

Modular is factory-made boxes assembled on site (think IKEA, but kitchen). Better quality control, standardised fittings, faster install, actual warranties. Total for a modular kitchen: ₹1.5–₹5.5 lakhs, depending on material and size.

Carpenter-made is built from scratch on site. Makes sense for unusual spaces, a very tight budget, or full customisation. Quality is entirely the carpenter’s skill. There is no standardisation.

Either way, specify the carcass and the hardware yourself. Do not let the quote hide those two lines inside “kitchen, complete.”

Hardware (the part you only notice when it fails)

Soft-close hinges: doors close gently, no slamming, cabinets last longer. Brands Pooja named: Hettich, Blum, Ebco.

Drawer slides: 35–50 kg is standard; premium goes up to 70 kg. Hettich and Blum cost more. They last 15–20 years more than cheaper brands. Cheap slides often need replacement in 3–5 years.

Pull-out baskets: for deep cabinets, so you are not fishing at the back.

Magic corners: special hardware that brings corner storage to the front when you open the door. ₹8,000–₹15,000 per unit. Makes dead corner space usable.

Appliances

Built-in hobs: ₹8,000–₹40,000, depending on brand and features. Seamless, easier to clean, saves counter space. Needs a precise cut-out. Freestanding cooktops are cheaper, easier to replace, and make sense in a rental — they eat counter space and you have to lift them to clean underneath.

Chimney: not a luxury. Indian cooking is oil, tadka, heat. Minimum suction 1,000 m³/h. Better: 1,200–1,500 m³/h. Baffle filters (steel panels) are easy to clean and last. Cassette/mesh filters are cheaper and need frequent replacement. Filter-free (centrifugal) is lower maintenance, higher cost. Mount 24–30 inches above the cooktop — too high and suction dies, too low and you hit your head.

Built-in ovens: conventional (bake/roast), convection (fan, faster, more even), steam (food does not dry out). Measure the cabinet twice; built-in ovens need exact dimensions. Basic from ₹25,000. Premium / steam up to ₹1.5 lakh.

Dishwasher. Fastest-growing appliance in Indian kitchens. 8–10 place settings, or 12–14 for a larger family. Standard width 60 cm — plan the cabinet and the plumbing at design stage, not after. Look for intensive / kadai wash; Indian cooking leaves more grease and masala than a Western cycle expects. Brands named: Samsung, LG, Bosch. Good machines: ₹35,000–₹80,000. Give it a 15-amp point. Under-sink RO. Hidden, dedicated faucet, no counter bulk. Plan cabinet space and the electrical point now. Retrofit is messier and more expensive.

Sinks and backsplash

Stainless steel sinks are the usual choice. Buy 18 or 16 gauge — lower number means thicker steel. Decide single vs double bowl, under-mount vs top-mount, and whether you want sound-dampening pads.

Granite composite sinks (crushed granite + resin) look premium, match a granite counter, scratch- and heat-resistant, more colours. Cost 2–3× a steel sink.

Ceramic sinks look like a bathroom basin. They chip and stain. Not practical for heavy Indian cooking.

Backsplash is what saves the wall from oil, water, and heat.

• Ceramic tile — ₹50–₹200/sq ft — Practical, easy to clean. Use darker grout so stains do not show.

• Glass tile — ₹200–₹500/sq ft — Bounces light, kitchen looks larger. Shows water spots.

• Natural stone — ₹150–₹450/sq ft — Can be porous — needs sealing.

• Toughened glass sheet — ₹300–₹800/sq ft — No grout lines, custom print, needs a proper installer.

• Stainless steel — — — Hygienic, heat-proof, industrial. Spots and fingerprints.

• Regular paint — do not — Oil and moisture wreck it in months.

• Epoxy paint — 2–3× regular paint — Hard, chemical-resistant, scrubbable, lasts.

Do not paint a kitchen splash zone with regular wall paint. Tile it, glass it, or use epoxy.

Space, power, plumbing

Indian kitchens need room for large pressure cookers, storage tins, a wash-and-chop zone near the sink, and a heat-safe landing for hot cookware.

• Counter height: 32–36", set to the primary cook

• Counter depth: 24"

• Upper cabinets: min 18" above the counter

• Upper depth: 12"

• Lower depth: 24"

• Socket on the counter: 5 amp every 2 feet

• Dishwasher: dedicated 15 amp

• High-load (induction etc.): separate circuit

• Under-cabinet lighting: its own circuit

Plumbing to plan before the carcass goes in: hot-water line for the dishwasher, softener take-off if you have hard water, drainage for dishwasher and RO, shut-off valves so you can service appliances without shutting the whole kitchen.

Moisture near the sink: BWR or BWP plywood, or HDHMR. Not MDF. Not particle board.

What to actually spend on (from the video)

Tight budget. Do not cheap the carcass. Good plywood now, fancier finish later. Replacing the box is the bill you do not want.

Heavy cooking. Granite or quartz on the counter, and a chimney that actually sucks — 1,000 m³/h minimum, 1,200–1,500 better. Your walls and your lungs will notice.

Forever home. Blum or Hettich. They cost more on day one and last 15–20 years longer. Cheap hardware is a 3–5 year replacement cycle.

Selling the house. Appearance over function. Buyers see the counter and the cabinet finish first.

Moisture / sink base. BWR, BWP, or HDHMR. Not MDF. Not particle board.

Marble. Beautiful. Wrong for an Indian kitchen. Acid etches it.

Do not get swept by the sales pitch. You now know which questions to ask, and which answers are nonsense.
